It's
very hard to find anything about the history of the MTB-wrecks
in the "Lunkebugt". The only thing, that seems to be
for sure is, that the ships were at the shipyard "Gl. Haugesund",
located at "Svenborgsund", before they were sunken by
the germans themselves, at the end of the 2nd. Worldwar, 1945.
It's
remarkable, that there are no signs of weapons at the wrecks.
Were the ships build at the Danish shipyard or were they just
in for a renovation?
The diesel-engines is told to be raised just a while after the
sinking in 1945?
The
wrecks are easily dived, since they are located in a rather protected
area against wind and weather. The depth is maximum 10 meters,
but the visibility is mostly poor, what means a couble of meters
or less.
The wrecks were found by the diveclub "Delfinen" in
"Svenborg", 1995, after a week with intensive searching.
The club has a nice collection of goods from the wrecks. More
of them can be seen in an article of the magazine" DYK"
July, 2000.
